Toledo is teeming with attractions and over 2,000 years of history waiting to be explored. Known as the city of three cultures, the city was home to some of the world’s most prominent civilisations: Judaic, Christian and Muslim. Visitors can explore the towers, galleries and museums of the Alcázar of Toledo, the city’s most iconic landmark, as well as the Gothic Cathedral, which is considered one of the finest in Spain with intricate stonework, stained glass windows and collection of works by famous artists such as El Greco. One of the oldest synagogues still standing in Europe, built in the 12th century, reflects the city’s diverse history, as does the Puerta del Sol – a historic gate and main entrance to the old city - which offers a glimpse into Toledo’s medieval past. Soak up the atmosphere of the city in Zocodover Square or visit El Greco Museum, which is dedicated to the famous artist who lived and worked in Toledo.
Toledo is also famous for its delicious cuisine, and visitors should not miss the “cochinillo asado” roast suckling pig, as well as the Manchego cheese, migas (a dish made with fried breadcrumbs), hearty stews and marzipan which has been made for centuries in Toledo.
