After collecting your rental car from Ayia Napa Port, spend time driving around to find your bearings. If you’re dreaming of sun, sand and sea, head straight for the beach. With some of the best in Cyprus, you’ve got numerous sandy stretches to choose from. Nissi beach is the most well-known with a lively atmosphere, a number of beach bars and opportunities to take part in water sports. For a more relaxed atmosphere, lay your towel down on the eastern side of this beach, where it’s considerably quieter.

Families will enjoy a day at WaterWorld Waterpark, which has an ancient Greece theme and is one of the biggest in Europe. With a host of slides, a Lazy River and a wave pool among its attractions, you can easily spend a whole day here. Scuba diving is also a popular activity in the waters off the coast of Ayia Napa.

Away from the water, outdoor enthusiasts can go hiking in Cape Greco National Forest Park. History buffs should visit the medieval Ayia Napa Monastery and the Makronissos Tombs, an ancient necropolis overlooking the city.

After dark, it’s time to experience Ayia Napa’s famous nightlife. There’s a range of clubs here, but also quieter bars if you prefer a more laidback ambience. An abundance of restaurants to choose from means delicious local cuisine is never far away.

Nicosia

A day trip to Nicosia, the buzzing capital city of Cyprus, should be on everyone’s itinerary. This lively city is just over an hour’s drive from Ayia Napa City. Walking along the city’s 16th-century Venetian walls, indulging in some retail therapy and taking food tours are just a few popular local activities to enjoy. To see traditional Cypriot wares being made, head to the Cyprus Handicrafts Centre, where the likes of pottery, ceramics and mosaics are created. To learn about the history of Cyprus, spend time in the Leventis Municipal Museum.

Protaras

The resort of Protaras is just a 15-minute drive from Ayia Napa and is a top family destination. With a distinctly more laidback setting, Protaras has a number of superb waterfronts perfect for a tranquil day at the beach. The main beach has golden sand and rocky coves, but be sure to visit Fig Tree Bay too. With a small island just off its coast, it’s a great place for snorkelling. Attractions like the Magic Dancing Water and the Ocean Aquarium will keep children wholly entertained.
