If you are driving in Larnaca, Cyprus for the first time, make sure you familiarise yourself with Cyprus driving rules before picking up your car. Some key road rules in Cyprus include driving on the left, as in the UK and overtaking on the right. Dipped headlights must be used in poor daylight visibility when driving on motorways, dual carriageways and rural roads. Mobile phones can only be used as a built-in audio device. It is forbidden to use the car horn in a built-up area unless in danger and eating and drinking while driving is prohibited.
The minimum age to rent a car with Avis in Larnaca and the rest of Cyprus is 23. Age restrictions also vary by vehicle and some selected car groups are not available to drivers under the age of 25.
There is currently no maximum age for hiring a rental car, so long as you have had a full, valid, licence for at least 1 year. Ayia Napa
If you are travelling further afield, it’s likely you’ll need to use the A3, which is the main access road to and from the airport. For anyone seeking the bright lights of Ayia Napa and Protaras, stay on the northeast bound A3 until you see signs for your destination (in around 45-50 minutes).
Limassol
Heading west to Limassol? You’ll need to exit the A3 onto the A5 and then take the A1. You’ll reach this popular resort in less than 45 minutes.
Mount Olympus and Nicosia
Journey inland on quiet country roads to trundle through gently rolling landscape and sleepy villages such as Lefkara and Kornos. Here you’ll come across deep-rooted traditions such as lace making, embroidery and pottery. Continue west off the beaten track to take in Mount Olympus - the island’s highest peak - and the lush interiors of Paphos Forest or keep heading north to check out the island’s capital, Nicosia.
Is it possible for someone else to drive the rental vehicle?
Yes, it is possible but only if they are listed on the rental agreement. It is important not to allow anyone who is not authorized to drive the vehicle. Please note that there is a fee for every additional driver who is authorized to drive the vehicle. The cost is EUR 7.00 per day, per driver including VAT.
All additional drivers must meet the age, driving license, and ID requirements.
If any additional driver is outside of our age restrictions, we will also charge a driver surcharge.
