Country driving laws

• Be aware that on unrestricted motorways (autobahns) you can still get a speeding ticket for driving too fast for the prevailing traffic or weather conditions

• At crossroads or junctions in urban areas, you have the right of way if there is a road sign with a yellow diamond at the intersection. A white triangle with a red border indicates you must wait for the oncoming traffic to clear
• A number of German cities have low emission zones that require you to have a special permit to drive through them
• If you're caught committing a driving offence, the police can issue an on-the-spot fine

Wilhelma
Located just to the north of Stuttgart’s city centre is the Wilhelma Zoo and Botanical Garden. This is the only zoo in Europe which includes a botanical garden and is spread over 74 acres of land. There are thousands of animals and plants to see here, including African apes, Australian marsupials, and reptiles from every corner of the world, but the 19th century architecture at this former palace site also draws much attention.

Reutlingen
Visit Reutlingen, a 40-minute drive from Stuttgart centre, to wander down the narrowest street in the world. At just 31 cm-50 cm wide, Spreuerhofstraße was constructed during the 18th century as part of the reconstruction efforts following a major fire that destroyed most of the area.
As a university city, Reutlingen has a tangible student buzz with plenty of cafes, restaurants and a great nightlife. There are also plenty of historic buildings to admire including a number of ancient churches, including the Gothic St Mary’s Church.

Discover the interesting history and admire ornate décor on a tour of the interiors, and don’t miss strolling around the immaculate period gardens that really turn back the clock.
