No.  Minimum liability insurance coverage is included in all rates at no additional charge at all locations in Canada.

The liability limit for locations in Canada is CAD 500,000.00 Public Liability & Property Damage coverage per accident.

All Avis cars are not to be driven on unpaved roads (like gravel, dirt, etc.)

Avis accepts most major credit cards as credit identification at the time of rental.

Accepted credit card list: Avis Charge Card, American Express, AT&T Capital, Diner's Club, Diner's Club Int'l, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, and Visa.

Some locations may not accept each of the referenced cards.

At the time of rental, a hold of $750.00 CAD or estimated rental charges plus 20%, whichever is greater, is placed on the credit card.

Debit cards are not accepted at time of rental as credit identification, however, they can be used at time of return to pay for the rental. You must have a honored charge card to qualify for rental. .

At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid drivers license in the drivers name.  All customers must also present a second form of ID. Please refer to the Additional Information topic for details.
Canada licenses required by issuing province to rent a vehicle are:  Manitoba requires Class 5 Full (F), New Brunswick requires Class 7 (level 2 only) and Class 5, Ontario requires Class G & G2 and all other provinces require Class 5.

Customers presenting a drivers license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to their valid drivers license.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) and PAI-Plus are optional coverages the customer may purchase at the time of rental.

Personal Accident Insurance provides accidental death and medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the Avis car.

Personal Accident Insurance Plus offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit.

PAI Plus offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit of CAD 100,000 per accident for the renter and all passengers in the Avis vehicle.

Coverage for paralysis is CAD 100,000 for the renter and CAD 10,000 for each passenger.

PAI Plus also includes coverage for:

• Emergency transportation
• Emergency accomodations
• Road Hazard Service
• Towing
• Legal Defense
• Lost keys/remote
• Funeral Expenses

PAI Plus benefits described are payable in addition to any other insurance benefits.

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.

Winter Tires are mandatory on certain roads or the renter/driver may be ticketed by RCMP.

QUEBEC -
It is mandatory that all vehicles registered in the province of Quebec be equipped with winter tires during the winter months of December through March. All rentals will be charged a daily Tire Management Fee up to 4.50 CAD per day for year-round tire maintenance.  The fee is subject to concession recovery fees, GST and QST.

ALL OTHER PROVINCES -
Winter tire equipped vehicles maybe available in the winter season for reservations at some locations. An additional fee up to 20.00 CAD per day will apply.  Fees vary by location and car group.

For vehicle Groups: F (Intermediate), G (Premium), H (Luxury), K (Convertible), P (Full Size Pickup), W (Standard), L (Full Size SUV), Z (Premium SUV) and all Group X (Specialty Vehicles).

At locations in Canada, you may be asked to provide an additional form of identification as a condition to rent a vehicle. Acceptable forms of additional identification are: 

• Military ID
• Certificate of Indian Status
• Canadian passport
• Canadian Permanent Resident Card
• Foreign passport that meets the requirements
• Nexus or Fast/Express card
• Non-driver's license issued by a province or territory
• ID card issued by the federal government, provincial or territorial government
• Credit card (other than the one being used for payment of rental) in Customer's name

Rather than requiring customers to be 25 to rent, Avis at this location now rents to customers between the ages of 21-24.  An underage surcharge may apply and will automatically be applied to the reservation.

Additionally, the following restrictions also will apply for renters between the ages of 21-24: Rentals of luxury cars, mini-vans, 12-passenger vans, specialty cars, and SUVs will not be permitted.

Government Minimum Age Policy

• Minimum age 21 (no underage fee applies). 

The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of gas or there will be a charge for refueling.

Most locations offer a prepaid gas option which you can accept at the rental location.

If the vehicle is driven less than 125 kilometers there may be an additional refueling fee, unless a gas receipt is presented at time of return. The customer can check at the time of rental for complete details.

How old do I need to be to drive a rental vehicle?

To drive our vehicles, you and all of your drivers need to be at least 21 years old and have held a full, valid driving license for at least 1 year at the start of your rental. For the rental of a selection of vehicles, if you have a Mou'v card, you and all of your drivers need to be at least 19 years old and have held a full, valid driving license for at least 1 year at the start of your rental. 

I am under 25 do I need to pay a young driver surcharge?

If you or any of your drivers are under 25 when you pick up the vehicle, you will each have to pay  a young driver surcharge. The cost for is 32,60 EUR per day, for each driver.
If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.

Are there any maximum age restrictions?

No, so long as you hold a full, valid driving license for at least 1 year.

Should I bring the vehicle back with a full tank of fuel?
Yes. The vehicle will normally be supplied with a full tank of fuel. You must return it to us with the same amount of fuel it had in it when you picked it up usually a full tank as shown on the factory-installed fuel gauge.  We recommend you fill up as close to the return location as you can on the return date, and keep the receipt to show us. If you don't return the vehicle with a full tank and you can't show us a receipt for fuel we will charge you.Fuel Options

I plan to travel more than 120kilometres, and want peace of mind, do you have a fuel option for me?
Yes, with Fuel Up Front you pay for a full tank of fuel, based on the manufacturer's stated fuel tank capacity for your vehicle plus our costs of refueling the vehicle for you. Then you just return the vehicle with whatever's left in the tank (even if it's virtually empty) so long as the engine still runs.
How do I calculate the cost of Fuel Up Front?
Depending on where you’re renting, this cost could be up to 0.05 EUR per liter lower than the average fuel price at the start of your rental period as stated on this EU fuel index:. However, you don't get a refund for any fuel you don't use.
Can I get Fuel up Front at any time?
No, if you want to take advantage of Fuel Up Front, you must ask for it during the booking process or when you pick up the vehicle.
I plan to travel less than 120 kilometers, do I still need to fill up?
Yes, often the fuel gauges stills look "full" so we ask you to fill up the tank near to the return location and show us a copy of the receipt.  If you don't have time to fill up the tank, or can't show us a receipt, we will apply EZ Fuel to cover our costs of refueling the vehicle for you.  
How much is EZ Fuel?
Depending on where you're renting, you pay of fixed fee of between 14.50 EUR and 17.00 EUR.  

What are my options if I don't return the vehicle full and haven't bought Fuel up Front?
Pay on Return will apply if you have driven more than 120 kilometers and:

• Don't buy Fuel Up Front
• Don't return the vehicle with a full tank

How do I calculate the cost of Pay on Return?
You pay for fuel based on the factory installed fuel gauge rounded down to the nearest eighth (1/8) of a tank. This is based on the manufacturer's stated fuel tank capacity.
We charge between 1.5 and three times the average fuel price at the end of the rental period for France as stated on this EU fuel index: plus a service fee between 13 EUR and 15 EUR. The price per liter will be stated on your rental agreement. This charge covers our cost of driving to the nearest petrol station at short notice, and potentially delaying the next customer's rental.
