Do car rentals have car seats?
Yes, you can also request car seats for both infants and toddlers when reserving a rental car from Avis. The specific models and types of car seats may vary by location, but they will meet all recommended safety standards. Renting car seats with a rental car does come with an additional fee, which will be added to your online estimate or explained to you in detail when you pick up your vehicle.
Child Safety Seat Rental Details
Avis offers multiple types of car seats at most U.S. rental locations for a daily rental rate. Your rental car seat will need to be returned to the same location it was rented from, and in the same condition, or there will be a $50 additional fee.
Car Seat Types
You can rent a car with a car seat that will fit an infant or a toddler, as well as booster seats for older children. For infants, we offer both rear-facing and convertible-style car seats. For toddlers, we have forward-facing car seats to ensure maximum safety for your child.
Safety is our number-one priority at Avis. We want the right restraint and child seat for your child. We recommend the following guidelines when selecting infant and child seats for rental:
Up to 1 year old (and up to 20-22 pounds)
Rear-facing Infant-only car seat, Convertible or 3-in-1 seat
Ages 1-3 (and 20 to 40 pounds)
Rear-facing car seat until the top height and weight limit allowed by the manufacturer is exceeded.
Ages 4-7 (or until 4'9" tall)
Forward-facing car seat until the top height and weight limit allowed by the manufacturer is exceeded.
Age 8-12 (or at least over 4'9")
Booster Seat with lap and shoulder belts until the top height and weight limit allowed by the manufacturer is exceeded
Big Kids Need Boosters
The U.S. Government recommends that from 40 to about 80 pounds and about 4'9" tall, children should always be seated in a belt-positioning booster. A booster seat lifts children so adult lap/shoulder seat belts are "positioned" correctly and safely. Plus, booster seats offer children better visibility and comfort.
Keeping these guidelines in mind, Avis Managers have been trained to properly install our Evenflo® child safety car seats using LATCH. All Avis locations also stock foam levelers to help ensure that seats are installed securely and you can rent a car seat with peace of mind.
You can rent car seats with car rentals for $13 per day, up to a maximum of $65 per rental. When you book your reservation online, you will be able to designate which type of car seat you would like and for how long. Then you should receive a cost estimate with your rental total. The total cost will also be confirmed when you pick up your vehicle and will be included in the rental agreement. Keep in mind that available car seat types vary by location.
Online Car Seat Reservation
Reserving rental car seats with your rental car is easy to do in our online booking process. On page 3 of your rental form, you’ll see a section labeled “Rental Options.” You can find this section under the “Equipment” tab. In this section, you will be able to indicate how many car seats you will need and which types of car seats you would like to reserve.
If you have questions about your car seat rental or want to make changes to your existing reservation, please call customer service or speak with an agent at the counter. This includes adding or subtracting car seats from your reservation.
If you’ll be traveling with children in your rental car, please request a car seat when booking your reservation.
What is LATCH?
Avis is the first car rental company to adopt the LATCH system as its standard for child safety seat installation. Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children initiative, a new standard for child restraints, is designed to reduce risks from improperly installed seats by standardizing "connectors into anchors" system for installing child safety seats.
Why Does LATCH Matter?
Avis stocks a set of standard, Evenflo® child safety and booster seats. Until recently, installing child restraints was a monumental task. Today, Avis can use one consistent process to install the Evenflo child restraints in any of our LATCH-ready vehicles. In fact, every one of the managers at Avis has been trained on proper LATCH installation.
Child Safety Seats are available as indicated in the chart below.
