Yes, Houston Intercontinental Airport was the airport’s original name when it opened in 1969. However, the Houston City Council changed the airport’s name to George Bush Intercontinental Airport in 1997. The name change was in honor of the 41st president of the United States, George H. W. Bush.
The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is far larger than the William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). IAH covers around 10,000 acres of land and features five runways, while HOU is about 1,300 acres and has three runways. Fortunately, you can schedule to pick up your Avis car rental at either airport.
No, IAH is not larger than Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). DFW is the largest airport in Texas at about 17,000 acres and has become the second busiest airport in the world in 2021. However, IAH is more extensive than Dallas’s smaller airport, Dallas Love Field (DAL).
