Find your perfect hire car at Naples Central Train Station

Come for the famous pizza, stay for the city life. Naples is all about great history, good food and volcanic landscapes.

Pick up your Avis car rental at Naples Central Train Station and start your journey.

Plan your journey from Naples Train Station

The city of Naples, just over a 20-minute drive from Naples Train Station via Nuova Marina, offers an enthralling array of historical and cultural sites – and some of the best pizza in the country.

At the National Archaeological Museum, you’ll find artefacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Visit the Church of San Francesco di Paola, known for its iconic pillars and massive portico, and take in Il Duomo – the cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of Assumption. There are also three castles well worth seeing: Egg Castle, New Castle and Sant’Elmo Castle. The latter offers exceptional panoramic views of the city and the bay.

If possible, catch an opera performance at the San Carlo Theatre. Experience Naples underground with the Associazione Napoli Sotterranea, making your way through hidden tunnels and caverns. Above ground, be sure to check out the Royal Palace, with its Museum of the Historical Apartments open to the public.

At some point, you’ll most certainly want to try some Naples pizza. The city is the home of Italy’s national dish and other tasty seafood and pasta dishes. Head to Piazza del Plebiscito, a huge open square offering a fine selection of restaurants. There are also many sidewalk cafes, where you can sit and watch the world go by.

Thanks to your Avis car rental, you’ll never be bored in Naples.

Beyond Naples Train Station

From ancient ruins to coastal towns, there’s much to discover just beyond Naples too.

Pompeii

One of Italy’s most significant historical sites is Pompeii and it’s just a 25-minute drive from Naples on the A3. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the 20,000 residents of Pompeii were woefully unprepared. The volcano wiped out the town, but remarkably preserved it in ash and volcanic debris. Now you can tour the site and the museum, where you’ll see life as it was on that fateful day.

Sorrento

Sorrento is an hour’s drive from Naples on the A3 and SS145. Straddling the surrounding cliffs, Sorrento sits high up from the coast, affording incredible views of its surrounds. While not technically part of the Amalfi Coast, many visitors use this fascinating city as the perfect base to explore it from. Do some shopping in the town centre and grab some gelato. Be sure to call at Correale House and the Correale Palace. If you can, nip across to the stunning island of Capri to soak up the Marina Grande.

Paestum

Drive 90 minutes from Naples via the A3 and arrive in Paestum – most famous for its Greek temples. Dating back to the 6th century BC, these are some of the best-preserved temples in the world, and they’re beautifully situated in the countryside overlooking the ocean. Believe it or not, this place does not receive the tourism traffic that Pompeii and Herculaneum do.

You don’t have to venture far from Naples to experience some of Italy’s best attractions. Sit back in your Avis rental car and go.
