Head to Milan from Milan Linate Airport via Viale Enrico Forlanini and reach the heart of the city in just 30 minutes. Milan is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, which can be fully appreciated with a bird’s eye view from the top of the Duomo. The Duomo itself is an incredible attraction, with 3,600 statues and 135 spires carved from pink marble.
The most popular attraction in Milan is Leonardo da Vinci’s renowned painting, ‘The Last Supper’. You’ll find the famous artwork in the refectory attached to the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. For another cultural experience, head to the neo-classical Teatro alla Scala, a world-famous opera house where most of Italy’s greatest operatic artists have performed.
For a fun and unique experience, have dinner on one of Milan’s trams. Refurbished as a mobile dining room, these former modes of transportation provide four course meals and panoramic views of the city. Art and fashion are two things Milan does well. Take in some art at one of Milan’s many galleries, like Pinacoteca di Brera. As one of the top fashion capitals of the world, no visit to Milan is complete without a shopping trip to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, an arcade filled with luxury clothing brand stores.
With an Avis hire car, your journey around the cultural city of Milan will be an unforgettable experience.
If you’re intending to visit one of the city’s famous trade shows, car hire is a must as most events are now held in a location approximately 10 miles from the city centre. Fiera Milano at Rho can be reached via the A4 and the A8/A9 motorways or the Tangenziale Ovest.

Road Trips from Milan Airport
When it’s time to escape the city, you don’t have to go far from Milan to find great options.
Lake Como
Take the A9 and SS340 from Milan and arrive at Lake Como, one of the top destinations in Italy with outstandnatural beauty in the country. It’s situated at the foot of the Rhaetian Alps, and its shoreline is clustered with tiny villages and towns. Bellagio is a popular village to explore, thanks to its setting by the lake and century-old buildings.
Cinque Terre
With its distinctive, colourful buildings scattered along the cliff edge, Cinque Terre has featured on many postcards. From Milan, take the A7 and A12 to reach this picture-perfect destination in two hours. There are five fishing villages located inside Cinque Terre National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site, which all offer idyllic coastal views. The drive itself is worth the journey.
Genoa
Genoa, the hub of the Italian Riviera, is a two-hour drive from Milan, via the A7. The city is known as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, and has several landmarks to explore. See the Old Town, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Make time to visit the Piazza de Ferrari and the Palace of the Doges.
With the ease and convenience of an Avis hire car, you can see Milan and beyond at your own pace. Get ready to explore northern Italy. All you have to do is drive.
In and around Milan
After collecting your hire car from Avis Milan Linate airport, it’ll take you just 30 minutes to drive into central Milan. Avis have other car hire locations in Milan including Milan Malpensa Airport, Milan Piazza Diaz, Milan Via Carina and Milan Viale Certosa.
Piazza Duomo (Cathedral Square) is the main hub of Milan and you can see the magnificent Milan Cathedral as well as some of Milan’s most important buildings here. Prepare to be amazed by the sheer size and features of the Cathedral (it has 135 spires and a staggering 3,200 statues). The roof, accessible by stairs and lift, gives you a breath-taking view of Milan.
On the other side of the piazza you’ll see the entrance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, an exclusive shopping arcade built in the 19th century. Enjoy a stroll to admire the bars, cafés and up-market shops.
At the other end of the Galleria, across the road, stands La Scala, the world-famous opera house. Join a guided tour to discover the many secrets and little-known facts about this splendid theatre. It’s a short distance from La Scala to the Quadrilatero d’Oro fashion district, four streets forming a compact location for stores of the biggest designer names.
One of the city’s major highlights is, of course, Leonardo da Vinci’s Il Cenacolo or ‘Last Supper’, in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. It’s a very popular attraction so make sure you book tickets well ahead. Da Vinci also designed the defences of the imposing Castello Sforzesco in Piazza Castello, which now houses several museums with exhibits covering Palaeolithic history and furniture, among other things.
After an action-packed day of sightseeing and shopping, rub shoulders with the locals over an aperitivo at a local bar. When you feast your eyes on the array of goodies on offer at the free buffet, you’ll see why this has become an after-work institution throughout the country.
The distance is around 19 miles. After securing your car rental, you can be in the centre of town in under 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Damage to the vehicle
Which amounts is the Customer required to pay in the event of damage to the vehicle during the rental if the Customer has not purchased a damage waiver or if said waiver is not already included in the rental rate or if the waiver does not apply in the specific case?
In case the vehicle is damaged during the rental, the Company will evaluate at its own discretion whether to proceed with the repair or substitution of the damaged parts. In any case, the Customer is required to pay the following amounts:
The Customer will not be charged any amount if following the standard cleaning procedure no damage is evidenced.
If the Customer proves that the damage was due to a circumstance not attributable to him/her/them, we will refund the amounts previously charged. The Customer may request the refund by contacting the Customer Service team.
If the Customer proves that the actual extent of the damage and/or the actual amount incurred for repair or replacement is less than the amount estimated under Section 10 of the General Conditions, the Customer will be reimbursed the difference. The Customer may request the refund by contacting the Customer Service team.
Which waivers reduce the amount the Customer has to pay if the vehicle is damaged during the rental?
Avis branded rentals made in Italy include in the rate shown at the time of booking - as well as in the rate shown at the rental location - a basic level of reduction of the Customer's economic liability in case of damage to the vehicle during the rental period (“Collision Damage Waiver”, CDW).
If the reduction of economic liability in case of damages is included in the rental or has been purchased separately by the Customer and the vehicle is damaged during the rental, the Customer will be charged the lower amount between (i) the excess stated on the Rental Agreement, in case of applicability of the CDW and (ii) the overall amounts (ABC) indicated above.
In case of multiple damages to the vehicle which are clearly identified as such at check-in and which are not related to the same event, the Customer will be charged, for each individual damage, the lower amount between (i) the excess stated on the Rental Agreement, in case of applicability of the CDW and (ii) the overall amounts (ABC) indicated above, it being specified that the amounts under letters B and C will in any case be charged only once.
Any limitation or exclusion of economic liability of the Customer in case of damage to the vehicle (respectively, Collision Damage Waiver and Super Collision Damage Waiver, as provided below) does not apply to damages occurred or caused to the windscreen and the windows (save for the following provisions).
Any limitation or exclusion of economic liability of the Customer in case of damage to the vehicle (respectively, Collision Damage Waiver and Super Collision Damage Waiver, as provided below) is not effective and in any case expires for (i) damage caused by willful misconduct or gross negligence, as well as for (ii) damage to the interior of the vehicle, for damage caused to the roof (caused by lack of assessment of the height of the vehicle and of the objects protruding or overhanging the roof), for damage caused to the clutch kit, for damage caused by engine over-revving, for damage or theft of
tyres and/or rims, for damage caused to the underbody, unless the Customer proves said damage (or, in the case of the tyres and rims, the theft) was determined by a circumstance not attributable to him/her/them.
How much is the excess if the Customer has purchased CDW / the latter is included in the rental?
The excess, which corresponds to the maximum amount of the Customer's economic liability for each damage clearly identified at check-in and not related to the same event, is indicated in the booking process or in the rental fare shown at the rental location and is stated on the Rental Agreement and also in your booking confirmation email. Applicable taxes and eventually a surcharge in the case of rentals at airports or train stations will be added to the excess.
How do I get Collision Damage Waiver?
The Rental Agreement and your booking confirmation email indicate whether the reduction of economic liability for damages (Collision Damage Waiver) is included in the rental. If it isn't included, the price for this service will depend on the vehicle you’re renting, the place you’re renting it from and the duration of the rental. The price approximately ranges between EUR 17.64 (VAT included) and EUR 26.47 (VAT and eventual surcharge in case you rent at an airport / train station included) per day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 15 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 15 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days; from the 31st day, the daily surcharge will revert.
Is there a waiver available to reduce my excess further?
Yes, Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) is a service which reduces your excess to zero in case of damages to the vehicle during the rental period: therefore, in this case, the Customer will not be charged any amount for damages to the vehicle, save for the application of the last two paragraphs of the previous clause "Which waivers reduce the amount the Customer has to pay if the vehicle is damaged during the rental?". The price depends on the vehicle, the rental location and duration of the rental and approximately ranges between EUR 23.01 (VAT included) and EUR 43.92 (VAT and eventual surcharge in case you rent at an airport / train station included) per day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 15 days, you'll only be charged foramaximum of 15 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days; from the 31st day, the daily surcharge will revert.
Which amounts is the Customer required to pay if the windscreen or any other window is damaged?
In case of damages to the windscreen or windows the Customer will have to pay the overall amounts (ABC) indicated in the previous clause "Which amounts is the Customer required to pay in the event of damage to the vehicle during the rental if the Customer has not purchased a damage waiver or if said waiver is not already included in the rental rate or if the waiver does not apply in the specific case?".
Is there a waiver which reduces the Customer's economic liability in case of damages to the windscreen or any other window?
Yes, Windscreen Protection reduces the amount you have to pay if the windscreen or any other window is damaged to zero.
The price of this service depends on the vehicle you're renting, the place you're renting it from and the duration of the rental. Said price approximately ranges between EUR 6.15 (VAT included) and EUR 9.15 (VAT and eventual surcharge in case you rent at an airport / train station included) per day. If you’ve bought the Windscreen Protection waiver, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement. If you rent the vehicle for more than 15 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 15 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days; from the 31st day, the daily surcharge will revert.
Are there any cases in which the waivers which reduce or eliminate the economic liability for damages to the vehicle do not apply?
Yes. The amount the Customer will have to pay will not be reduced if the damage was caused by or is the result of:
The Customer also does not benefit from the reduction or elimination of economic liability where he/she/them intentionally provides incorrect information in the incident report form.
Where can I find information of damage charges I've paid?
If we find damage, we'll charge the amount you have to pay to your card. If the Customer has provided the Company with his/her/their email address, the Customer will receive, immediately after the damage charge is made, an email containing the complete information regarding the payment made. In any case, the details of the payment made by the Customer will also be available at the following link: www.avisautonoleggio.it/fattura-online.
Damage, loss or theft of keys, accessories, vehicle documents or optional extras
Damage, loss or theft of the vehicle keys, accessories and documents
In case of damage, loss or theft of the vehicle keys, accessories or documents, the Company will evaluate at its own discretion whether to proceed with the repair (where applicable) or substitution of the damaged parts.
In any case, the Customer is required to pay (i) the amount of the estimated damage, corresponding to the estimated cost of replacement of the affected parts or the estimated cost of repair of the same and (ii) EUR 102.60 (VAT included) or EUR 123.12 (VAT included) in the case of rentals at airports; or EUR 119.02 (VAT included) in the case of rentals at train stations as an all-inclusive amount for one day of idle time of the vehicle.
If the Customer proves that the damage, loss or theft was due to a circumstance not attributable to him/her/them, we will refund the Customer the amounts previously charged. The Customer may request the refund by contacting the Customer Service team.
If the Customer can prove that the actual extent of the damage and/or the actual amount incurred for repair or replacement is less than the amount estimated under Section 10 of the General Conditions of Rental, the Customer will be reimbursed the difference. The Customer may request the refund by contacting the Customer Service team.
Waivers that reduce (Collision Damage Waiver) or eliminate (Super Collision Damage Waiver) the economic liability for damage to the vehicle also cover, under similar conditions, the cases of damage, loss or theft of the keys, accessories or documents of the vehicle. Specifically, in case of purchase of CDW, the Customer will be charged the lower amount between (i) the excess stated in the Rental Agreement and (ii) the aforementioned replacement or substitution costs and vehicle idle time; in case of purchase of SCDW, the Customer will not be charged any amount.
Damage, loss or theft of optional extras
In case of damage, loss or theft of optional extras, the Company will evaluate at its own discretion whether to proceed with the repair (where applicable) or substitution of the damaged parts. In any case, the Customer is required to pay the amount of the estimated damage, corresponding to the cost of replacement of the affected parts or the estimated cost of repair of the same.
If the Customer proves that the damage, loss or theft was due to a circumstance not attributable to him/her/them, we will refund the amounts previously charged.
