About Preveza Airport
Preveza Airport (PVK) - or Aktion National Airport as it is also known - first opened in 1968. It’s been refurbished with an upgraded terminal building and although small, has all the facilities needed for passengers including an airport shop and cafe.
More than 800,000 passengers pass through the airport each year and in the summer months there are flights from more than 31 European cities and 14 countries plus 4 domestic Greek destinations: Athens, Zante, Crete and Corfu.
The airport is located to the southeast of Preveza, the capital of the region of Preveza in southern Epirus.
Tips for driving in Preveza and Lefkada
Hiring a car is a great way to explore the mainland around Preveza as well as driving across to the Ionian island of Lefkada. We’d recommend using GPS to navigate the Greek road network. How to get from Preveza Airport to Preveza
From the Avis car park at Preveza Airport, the town of Preveza is just a 13min drive of 7.2km. Head north from the airport and turn left onto the E55. The route takes you via the Aktio-Preveza tunnel, the only undersea tunnel in Greece, and once you emerge, you’ll just follow signs into the centre of town.
Things to do in Preveza Town
The main attraction in Preveza is the archaeological site of Nicopolis, which lies 8km north of the city. This ancient metropolis was founded by a Roman Emperor in 31BC to commemorate a military victory, and the city flourished in the Roman and Byzantine ages. Artefacts displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis include marble statues and portraits dating from the 1st century BC.
The Preveza prefecture is also well known for its long stretch of pristine beaches, many of which are just a stone’s throw from the city. Monolithi is one of the most visited beaches in the region and just 8km away from Preveza. The bay is flanked by dense forest, great for hiking after a dip in the ocean. If you would prefer to relax on the beach all day, there are refreshment kiosks located right on the sand. Alternatively, Lichnos Beach is 3km from Preveza and has rocky caves and winding creeks waiting to be explored.
Recommended day trips from Preveza Airport
Mesopotamos
For history buffs, Mesopotamos, in the north of the Preveza region, is a must-visit destination famed for its associations with mythology. It’s here that the ancient site of the Nekromantio is located – a place that was constructed by the Ancient Greeks as a gate to the underworld. It’s said that this is where souls presented themselves to the Gods who would decide their fates. Mesopotamos is also home to Ephyra, a site that was inhabited by a Mycenaean colony from the 14th century BC and described by Homer. At 47km from Preveza Airport, Mesopotamos is easily accessible by car.
Lefkada
You don’t need to board a ferry to get to the beautiful Ionian island of Lefkada – just drive across the causeway from Preveza Airport and you’ll arrive in Lefkada Town in 20 minutes. Lefkada is renowned for its beautiful beaches and Porto Katsiki has to be one of the best. Located 40km from the town of Lefkada, this idyllic setting is best reached by car. Atop the overlooking cliffs is a car park and from there you descend 80 steps down to the golden sand, lapped by the crystal clear waters.

Collision Damage Waiver
(CDW)
In most cases, Damage Waiver is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).
Damage Waiver reduces the amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage if the vehicle is damaged (or the amount you pay to replace any keys, accessories or vehicle documents that are lost, stolen or damaged).
The amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss, and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.
Normally between EUR 12.50 to EUR 22.50 per day (if not included as standard) If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
An excess reduction product which reduces your damage waiver excess to zero
Normally between EUR 16.00 to EUR 65.00 per day charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days.
Theft Protection (TP)
In most cases, Theft Protection is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).
Theft Protection waiver reduces the amount you pay if the vehicle is stolen during the rental period.
The amount you pay will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss, and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.
Normally between EUR 4.50 to EUR 12.00 per day (if not included as standard) charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days.
Super Theft Protection (STP)
An excess reduction product which reduces your theft protection excess to zero on cars.

Windscreen protection
This protection reduces the amount you pay to zero if the windscreen is damaged while you're renting the vehicle. Having windscreen protection also means you won't pay a Damage/Loss/Repair Processing Fee.

Covers the driver of the vehicle in the event of an accident. Personal Accident Insurance provides the following benefits:
