How to get from Kavala Airport to the centre of Kavala by car
From the Avis car park at Kavala Airport, Kavala town centre is just a 30min, 30km drive. Head north from the airport and join the main transcontinental European Route E90 towards Thessaloniki – this section of the route has a toll. Leave at the exit for Kavala East A2 before dropping onto the palm-fringed coast road and into Kavala. The town is well signposted in English as well as Greek.
Things to do in Kavala
Kavala has been fought over through the centuries and with its rich history as a trading post not surprisingly its most spectacular sight is the fortified castle. The fortress sits above the ‘blue’ city reflecting the waters of the crystal-clear Aegean below.
Magical Panagia, Kavala’s old town with its brightly coloured houses and narrow streets is a highlight of any trip to this fascinating city. As you walk down from the castle to the port, spot the aqueduct, Roman in origin but rebuilt in the 16th century. Make a detour to the former home of Mohammed (Mehmet) Ali, an Egyptian dynast who lived in the town and marvel at the Imaret, a fine example of Ottoman Baroque architecture and today a 5-star hotel.

Even if beach holidays are not your thing, the white sandy beaches of the coast around Kavala are sure to beckon at some point during your trip. The most popular beaches in the area are Batis, Tosca, Kalamitsa, Rapsani, and Perigiali.

Thassos
Flying to Kavala Airport and catching the ferry is the route most visitors use to reach the dazzling green island of Thassos just off the coast of Kavala. Collision Damage Waiver
(CDW)
In most cases, Damage Waiver is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).
Damage Waiver reduces the amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage if the vehicle is damaged (or the amount you pay to replace any keys, accessories or vehicle documents that are lost, stolen or damaged).
The amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss, and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.
Normally between EUR 12.50 to EUR 22.50 per day (if not included as standard) If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
An excess reduction product which reduces your damage waiver excess to zero
Normally between EUR 16.00 to EUR 65.00 per day charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days.
Theft Protection (TP)
In most cases, Theft Protection is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).
Theft Protection waiver reduces the amount you pay if the vehicle is stolen during the rental period.
The amount you pay will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss, and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.
Normally between EUR 4.50 to EUR 12.00 per day (if not included as standard) charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days.
Super Theft Protection (STP)
An excess reduction product which reduces your theft protection excess to zero on cars.

Windscreen protection
This protection reduces the amount you pay to zero if the windscreen is damaged while you're renting the vehicle. Having windscreen protection also means you won't pay a Damage/Loss/Repair Processing Fee.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Covers the driver of the vehicle in the event of an accident. Personal Accident Insurance provides the following benefits:
A maximum of EUR 50,000.00 in the event of death and permanent total or partial disability
A maximum of EUR 2,000.00 towards emergency medical expenses related directly to the accident.
Normally EUR 2.50 per day (charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days)
Super Personal Accident Insurance (SPAI)
Covers the driver of the vehicle in the event of an accident. Super Personal Accident Insurance provides the following benefits:
- A maximum of EUR 80,000.00 in the event of death
- A maximum of EUR 100,000.00 in the event of permanent total or partial disability
- A maximum of EUR 5,000.00 towards emergency medical expenses related directly to the accident

Lockout Service: Budget will assist the driver gain entry when keys are locked inside the vehicle or when he has lost the keys.

Tyre assistance: Replacement of a flat or damaged tyre with the spare, or get the car towed to the nearest service facility.
