Find your perfect hire car at Caen Train Station

William the Conqueror founded Caen in the 11th century. Despite being razed to the ground in the Battle of Normandy, Caen bounced back with enthusiasm. Today, it’s home to many modern amenities and attractions for travellers. Pick up your Avis hire car at the Caen Train Station and start exploring.

Plan your journey from Caen Train Station

Caen Train Station is just a 10-minute drive via Boulevard Bertrand to downtown Caen. Notorious for being at the centre of conflict in the Battle of Normandy in 1944, Caen is close to the D-Day beaches on which the soldiers fought that fateful day. The award-winning Le Mémorial de Caen, a museum and memorial which pays tribute to the event, is also located here. It’s considered to be the best World War II museum in France, and also has artefacts on display from the Berlin Wall and the 9/11 tragedy in the United States.

One of the most significant sights in town is the Château de Caen, built in 1060. It was built with the same Caen stone used for the Canterbury Cathedral in England. You can tour the castle, as well as its landscaped garden, and enjoy fantastic views of the town below from its ramparts. Also onsite is the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Caen, which displays fine art from across the centuries.

Visit the beautiful Rue du Vaugueux and discover its half-timbered houses. There are also many fine restaurants in this area, featuring local dishes. The Roman masterpieces in Caen’s Hôtel de Ville are worth seeing too.

You’ll instantly be charmed by Caen in northern France, and your Avis car will afford you the luxury of seeing it all at your own pace.

Beyond Caen Train Station

Venture beyond Caen and explore all that Normandy has to offer with the convenience of a rental. Many of the region’s top attractions are less than two hours away by car.

Rouen

The town of Rouen is located around 90 minutes from Caen on the A13. The capital of Upper Normandy, Rouen is most famous for being the site of where heroine Joan of Arc was tried and condemned in 1431. The Notre Dame Cathedral is the town’s stunning centrepiece, and inspired many of Claude Monet’s paintings. For more incredible architecture, visit the Palais de Justice, and the Église Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc.

Trouville-sur-Mer

Trouville-sur-Mer is a 45-minute drive from Caen via the A13. This town is famous for its historic fish market. You can expect some of the best seafood in France to feature in the cuisine here. If you try any one dish, make sure it’s moules frites. This pretty seaside resort has been the inspiration for artists such as Dumas, Corot and Monet, and while its neighbour, Deauville, has developed over time, Trouville-sur-Mer retains much of its traditional appeal.

Mont Saint-Michel

Mont Saint-Michel is an incredible attraction situated around an hour-and-a-half’s drive from Caen via the A84. This little island is nestled at the mouth of the Couesnon river and is best known for its stunning medieval Benedictine Abbey and steeple church, which dominate the view. The island is connected to the mainland by a road bridge, but when the tide is out it’s also possible to walk there across the sand.

Normandy never fails to impress. Sit back and enjoy the ride in an Avis rental car from Caen Train Station.
