The friendly team at Avis Tallinn Airport is waiting to get your journey underway as quickly and smoothly as possible. You will find our office located inside the airport public transport terminal.
Tallinn Airport is just a short 4 km from the city centre. Depending on the time of day, the drive, via Route 2, should only take around 10min.
Estonia’s beautiful capital city is on the Baltic Sea and has a rich seafaring history as well as a walled, old town filled with cobbled streets lined with shops and cafes. Much of Tallinn is medieval, the skyline is filled with domes, spires and turrets and its town hall is the oldest in the Baltic region and Scandinavia. But this is also a city of contrasts with modern and trendy areas, a bohemian quarter and an elegant, fine art district.
If you can tear yourself away from one of the most unspoiled medieval cities in Europe, you’ll find the region around the capital doesn’t disappoint either. For a relaxing day, head to Lahemaa National Park which has sandy beaches and miles of forestry. If you are a fan of cross-country skiing, head to Otepaa, regarded as Estonia’s winter capital and a couple of hours south of the city. An hour and a half away from Tallinn via Route 9 you’ll find the pretty seaside spa resort of Haapsalu. Closer to the city, don’t miss the spectacular, Jagala Waterfall, the widest in Estonia, spanning 50 metres.
While the centre of Tallinn is a very walkable and offers good public transport, there is so much to see around the capital and hiring a car will be your best option to explore.
In Estonia as in the rest of Europe you will be driving on the right-hand side of the road and overtaking on the left. Everyone in the car must always wear seatbelts, and you should keep your headlights on while driving at night and during the day.
Be aware that you should use winter tyres if you’re planning to drive in Estonia between December 1 and March 1. For more advice please ask the team at our Avis rental location or check out our guide on the driving rules in Estonia.
Tallinn Old Town is mainly car-free and offers limited parking. There is a zone parking system for on-street parking in the city. Check before you park as in some areas there is free parking on a Sunday while in others charges apply 7 days a week.
