Country driving laws

• Do not use the horn around Vienna and near hospitals, or you may be fined
• Parking vouchers are required in many cities. These can be bought from a tabak, banks, hotels and some petrol stations
• Do not overtake buses when the yellow lights are flashing
• You must always carry a warning triangle, first-aid kit and reflective jacket in the car

Speed limits
All speed signs will be in km/h.

For a standard Avis rental vehicle with no trailer:

• Urban areas: 50 km/h (31 mph)
• Rural areas: 100 km/h (62 mph)
• Motorways: 130 km/h (80 mph)
• With snow chains: 50 km/h (31 mph)

Child safety / Seatbelt laws

• It is compulsory for the driver and all passengers to wear a seatbelt
• Children aged under 14, and less than 150cm tall must be seated in an appropriate child restraint for their size
• Two seater vehicles (e.g. sports cars) may not transport children aged under 14
