Nyköping was founded in 1187 and as such is one of Sweden’s oldest towns. It comes complete with its own castle, Nykӧpingshus, located where the river meets the harbour. Art lovers won’t want to miss a few hours browsing in the Gamla Bryggeriet (Old Brewery). With a gallery on the premises, this is a popular haunt with local artists and artisans, and there’s also a fantastic restaurant here with views overlooking the harbour.
From Nyköping you can also walk the Sörmlandsleden trail. The entire trail is 1,000km long, but you can easily walk smaller sections of it, taking you through some of Sweden’s most beautiful landscapes. There’s also a cable-car offering views across the park and plenty of child-friendly activities. Open from the end of April to the beginning of October, the park promises a fun day out for all the family. Just 45 minutes from Stockholm Skavsta Airport, via the E4, the park is easily accessible.

From the airport, you can be in Gamla Stan, the Old Town, in less than an hour and half.
