Can I rent a car for someone else to drive?No, you cannot rent a car for someone else. The person who has reserved the rental is the one who needs to pick it up. However, you may be able to add a driver onto your rental contract. Avis requires the additional driver to sign a form before allowing them to drive the rented vehicle, and there may be added fees.

General Policy About Renting for Another Driver
Although renters are not able to rent for another driver, additional drivers are allowed.
There are some occasions where you can add additional drivers for free. If you are the primary renter, you can let additional drivers can operate the vehicle without a fee if:
They are your spouse or partner,
They are your employer or employee traveling with you on business, or
They are driving for an unlicensed renter with a disability.
AND:
They hold a valid driver’s license,
They have a current driving license,
An additional driver who does not meet the criteria above must be added as an extra driver.
If the rental car sustains any damage, the primary renter is responsible for the vehicle, no matter who was driving at the time. This is another reason why renting a car for someone else is not allowed.
Can you rent a car for a driving test?No, you cannot rent a car for a driving test. Because Avis renters need a valid driver’s license, unlicensed drivers are not able to rent a car for a DMV driving test. What if you don’t have a car for a driving test? You may have to borrow a vehicle from a friend or family member because Avis does not have vehicles designated as DMV driving test rental cars. Your driving teacher may also know of other places where you can get a car for a driving test.
