Make 2024 the year you put your European travel plans into action. Whether you’re in the mood for a French road trip, an Italian adventure or some Spanish sunshine, we’re here to help you get on the road.

France

All eyes will be on Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games this summer, which run from 26 July to 11 August.

Spend a few days in the city, soaking up the atmosphere and catching some of the action live on the big screens in dedicated fan zones, then hop in the car to explore more of this wonderful country.

Within two and a half hours, you could be in the famous Loire Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that boasts grand chateaux, quaint medieval towns and some of the best food in France.

Further south, the region of Provence comes into peak bloom in July. Enjoy the spectacular views as you drive among fields upon fields of lavender, before heading to the coast to enjoy the glitz and glamour of the French Rivera.

Spain

A major international flight hub, the Spanish capital of Madrid is perfectly positioned in the heart of the country, making it the ideal starting point for your Spanish adventure.

Just an hour’s drive away, the ancient walled city of Toledo is a popular day trip. As you wander its maze of cobblestone streets and impressive stone bridges, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Further afield, the wacky architecture and unique Catalonian culture of Barcelona awaits. From there, you can head south along the so-called Costa Dorada (Gold Coast), stopping to explore the traditional whitewashed villages and family-friendly beaches.

Italy

Craving a taste of la dolce vita? A vacation to Italy promises to deliver gorgeous scenery, rich history and unbelievable food.

As far as classic road trips go, the Amalfi Coast is up there with Route 66. The 45-mile drive from Salerno to Sorrento packs in dramatic views at every turn. Stop for lunch in pretty Positano, where colourful houses cascade down the cliffside towards the sea.

If your travels take you to the north of the country, a visit to the Italian lakes is a must. Lake Como, Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore lure visitors in with their crystal-clear waters and backdrop of mountains. Visit in the Spring or Autumn months to enjoy mild temperatures and fewer crowds.

United Kingdom

The UK packs a lot into a small space, and there’s no better way to explore than by road.

If you’re starting your vacation in London, you can enjoy the bright lights of the city before heading out to experience the quintessential English countryside. The college towns of Oxford and Cambridge are within day-tripping distance, as are iconic sights like Windsor Castle and Stonehenge.

Visits to Scotland feature towering mountains, mysterious lochs and wide stretches of untouched coastline. For a road trip to remember, take the North Coast 500 – a breathtaking 500-mile route that takes you up to the northernmost point of mainland Scotland.

If you’re keen on history, save some time to explore Wales, which is home to more castles per square mile than any other country in the world.

Germany

With many transatlantic flights touching down in Munich, this is the perfect place to start your travels in Germany. The city might be best known for its annual Oktoberfest, but it’s a great destination to explore year-round thanks to its renowned museums and laidback, artsy vibe.

Venture into the Bavarian countryside and you’ll stumble upon fairytale towns like Rothenburg, with its painted timbered houses and medieval towers.

Germany’s famous autobahn road network makes it easy to travel the length and breadth of the country on one trip. Berlin is just over a six-hour drive north, while the Black Forest mountain range is four hours’ west of Munich.
