Should I prepay for my rental?
If you're looking to manage your travel budget and organize your trip early, prepay your reservation with a credit card on avis.com. At most Avis locations in the U.S. and Canada, U.S. or Canadian residents may reserve and pay toward your rental online early - and often you'll enjoy a discount for doing so. An avis.com prepaid rental - at most U.S. and Canada locations - is an advanced payment toward a reserved rental using a credit or debit card (at Avis locations that accept debit cards). A reservation payment on avis.com is a real-time transaction - the card you use is immediately authorized and charged when you confirm your desire to prepay toward your rental.
Although paying online early does not necessarily offer a discounted rate, you might even be able to save when you choose exclusive Avis PAY NOW rates. Of course, if you prefer, you can simply reserve on avis.com in the usual way and pay in full when you return your vehicle.
PAY NOW is only available on most rentals booked more than six hours in advance.

Which cards does Avis accept if I prepay my reservation online?
Avis.com accepts prepaid rentals with the following credit and debit cards:
In the U.S. & Canada: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa.
• No matter which form of payment is used at time of reservation, the Avis rental location's credit and debit card hold rules will apply. The card presented for the hold at pick-up will be the card of record for the rental.
Also be advised that some Avis locations do not accept debit cards as a form of payment. Upon paying your rental with a Debit Card, Avis will generally request an authorization hold against your account for the estimated charges of the rental but reserves the right in its sole discretion to request extra value based on certain factors as we deem appropriate. Some exceptions may apply. THESE FUNDS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR USE. When the rental is over we will process the reversal but the bank may take time to post it back to the account. You may see full rental terms and conditions for the hold requirements at your rental location during the online reservation process.
• All credit identification presented at the rental pick-up counter must bear exactly the same name as the prepaid reservation.
• For security reasons, if you can't satisfy the credential or hold requirements at the time of your Avis rental pick-up, a new reservation must be made at the prevailing rate and you must request a refund for the original prepaid reservation on Avis.com. A $25 fee will apply to all reservations cancelled at least six hours prior to the scheduled pick-up. If the reservation is not cancelled within six hours or if you fail to rent the car, a refund of the full prepaid amount, less a NO SHOW fee of $100.00 USD, will be charged.
What are the terms and conditions of paying online?
If you choose the Pay Now option and would like to apply an online payment, you must agree to the terms displayed on the Personal Information page (Step 4) during the Avis.com reservation process.
May I change my prepaid reservation?
Yes. Most reservation details may be changed without penalty via avis.com or calling customer service and at the counter when you pick up your rental. But you may not change reservation details such as method of prepayment, name on reservation, and some changes to rental location. If changes affect the total rate of the rental, the prepayment amount will not change. Underpayments will be handled at the counter at time of rental return, and any overpayments will be refunded after the rental agreement is closed. With Avis, you can change most details of your reservation on avis.com or calling customer service and at the counter at any time, even repeated times, at no additional charge. Such details include car type, pick-up and return dates, adding an additional driver, options (GPS, RSN, protections, etc...), and even changes to most locations.
What if I have a prepaid for my reservation and my flight is cancelled?
If a flight has been cancelled by the airline, it is necessary for you to call the Customer Service Contact Center at 1-800-352-7900 option 5 (other), then option 4 (billing), prior to your scheduled arrival time to avoid both the $25 Cancellation fee and the $100 No Show fee.
