Avis First Certainly has its Advantages


What is the Avis First program?
Avis First is our way of rewarding our most frequent customers. Membership in the Avis First program is by invitation only and is available to US and Canadian Avis Preferred® Service members.


What are the benefits of the Avis First program?
Avis First members not only have access to some the finest vehicles in the rental car industry, but also an abundance of special benefits including:

  1. Continued access to Avis Preferred Service -- skip the lines and go directly to your vehicle.
  2. Two-Day Weekend rental rewards - earn rental days free of time and mileage charges after every fourth qualifying rental of 2 consecutive rental days. Other restrictions apply.
  3. Single Car Class Upgrades, when available - to arrive at your destination in style.
  4. An exclusive toll free reservation number line to assist with any questions or needs you may have with regard to your rental.
  5. A members-only website that will provide you with access to your rental and reward information.

How many Weekend Rental Rewards can I earn in one year?
An Avis First member can earn up to 8 Weekend Rental Rewards in one calendar year. All Weekend Rental Rewards earned will be sent in the form of a coupon to the email address provided upon activation.


What are the rental qualification terms for earning Weekend Rental Rewards?
You will receive your first Weekend Rental Reward coupon upon activation of your Avis First membership online at www.avisfirst.com. You will earn subsequent Weekend Rental Reward coupons after every fourth qualifying Rental of two or more qualifying days. Rental credit towards weekend rewards will not be earned on rentals that include a Weekend Rental Reward coupon or receive mileage/credits/points for a frequent traveler program (i.e. airline frequent flyer, hotel points program, etc.). As an Avis First member, you can earn a maximum of eight (8) Weekend Rental Rewards in a calendar year.


What are the terms and conditions for Weekend Rental Rewards?
Weekend rental rewards are valid for two consecutive weekend days free of the daily time and mileage charges on an intermediate (group C) through a full-size four-door (group E) car. Taxes, concession recovery fees, vehicle license recovery fee, customer facility charges ($10/contract in California) may apply and are extra. Optional products such as LDW ($29.99/day or less) and refueling are extra. The rental period for this coupon is defined as any Avis minimum 2-day rental that includes a Saturday night overstay. If the rental period is longer than two consecutive days, the Avis First member is responsible for any additional time and mileage charges. Weekend rental reward coupons cannot be used for one-way rentals. Weekend rental reward coupons valid for six (6) months from date of issuance. Avis reserves the right to alter the terms and conditions and use of Weekend Rental Rewards. See reward fulfillment email for full terms and conditions.


Do my rentals qualify differently for annual membership and Weekend Rental Rewards?
Yes. Rental qualification for a Weekend Rental Reward includes the following additional requirements: members must be activated in the program, must include a minimum of two paid rentals days and not earn mileage/credits/points for a frequent traveler program (i.e. airline frequent flyer, hotel points program, etc.).


Can I earn Weekend Rental Rewards if I receive mileage/credits/points for a frequent traveler program on a rental?
No. A Rental that earns mileage/credits/points for a frequent traveler program will not qualify to earn credit towards a Weekend Rental Reward. If you would like to earn credit towards the Weekend Rental Rewards, do not include your Frequent Traveler Program Number on your reservation or rental information.


Are the coupons for my Weekend Rental Rewards accepted at all Avis locations?
The coupons for your Weekend Rental Rewards are valid at participating Avis locations in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.


How do I qualify for the Avis First program?
Avis First membership requires annual qualification. To qualify, US and Canadian Avis Preferred Service members must complete 12 or more qualifying Rentals or a cumulative total of 35 or more qualifying Rental days in a calendar year on one Wizard number. All rentals must be checked out and checked in within the same calendar year to qualify.


How do I participate in the Avis First program?
Upon qualifying, you will be automatically upgraded to Avis First. Please note that your Wizard Number will remain the same, but your level of service will be enhanced. You will be sent an Avis First identification card and you will immediately be eligible to receive single car class upgrades upon availability at participating locations.

In your new member welcome package, you will also receive an invitation to activate your membership online at avisfirst.com to begin earning the Weekend Rental Rewards in the program. Upon activation, you will receive an email confirmation (within two weeks) with your first Weekend Rental Reward and the ability to earn additional Weekend Rental Rewards after every four qualifying rentals of a minimum of two consecutive paid rental days.

Do I earn Weekend Rental Rewards automatically in Avis First?
No. Members must activate their membership at avisfirst.com. During activation, you must agree to give Avis your email address as the Weekend Rental Rewards will only be sent electronically. Once you activate your membership online at avisfirst.com, all rental activity will be tracked for reward eligibility using the Wizard Number that was used to activate the membership. As a reminder, in addition to standard qualifying rental conditions, rentals must also include a minimum of two paid rental days and cannot include a Weekend Rental Reward Coupon or earn mileage/credits/points for a frequent traveler program (i.e. airline frequent flyer, hotel points program, etc.) to qualify for rewards.

Can I participate in Avis First without an email address?
You can participate in Avis First without an email address; however, you will not earn or receive the Weekend Rental Rewards. The Weekend Rental Rewards, as well as most of the member communications, are only delivered by email. If you choose not to activate your membership which requires you to provide an email address, you can still take advantage of other Avis First benefits such as: free single car class upgrades upon availability, a dedicated reservation line and continued Preferred Service.


Will my Wizard Number remain the same?
Your Wizard Number that was previously used for other Avis programs will remain the same.


What communications can I expect to receive?
Once you qualify for membership in the Avis First program, you will receive your new membership card and invitation to activate via mail. Upon activation of your account, you will receive a confirmation email (within two weeks) including a coupon with your first Weekend Rental Reward. Members who activate their membership will also receive other emails pertaining to the Avis First program benefits (e.g., additional earned Weekend Rental Rewards) and special offers.

Do I still make my reservations on Avis.com?
Reservations for Avis First members can be made on www.avis.com, or via your exclusive website, www.avisfirst.com. If you use another site for reservations, please remember to use your Wizard Number to ensure the reservation is tracked to receive your Avis First benefits.


What type of Customer Service is available with Avis First?
As a member of the Avis First program, you not only have access to our exclusive website, www.avisfirst.com with account information and rental history, but you also have the benefit of an exclusive, toll free number to serve your needs 24 hours a day 1-800-331-1200 (in the US) or 1-800-809-2847 (in Canada).


Will my membership in this program expire?
Membership in the Avis First program is based on your rental activity within a calendar year. In order to remain in the Avis First program, you must complete 12 or more paid Rentals or a paid cumulative total of 35 or more Rental days in a calendar year on one Wizard number. The following expiration rules apply:

  • During your inaugural membership year of Avis First, your expiration date will be set to December of the following year. As an example, if you qualify to become a member of Avis First in July 2012 your expiration date will be set to December 31, 2013. In all subsequent years that you remain a member, your expiration date will advance one year at a time. As an example, if your current expiration date is set to December 31, 2012 and at that time you still qualify for Avis First, your membership will be renewed and your expiration date will be advanced to December 31, 2013.
