The Denver International Airport (DEN) is situated 23 miles outside downtown Denver. City officials chose a location where the airport would have space to grow and where the air traffic noise wouldn’t bother residents. Originally, Denver had planned to expand the Stapleton Airport but wound up replacing it with DEN.
Echo Mountain ski resort is 36 miles from downtown Denver, about a one-hour drive. However, Echo Mountain is relatively small compared to other ski locations around Denver. Loveland Ski Area and Winter Park Resort, which are a bit better-known, are (respectively) 53 miles and 66 miles from Denver. You can access these ski areas conveniently with an airport car rental.
As a rule of thumb, you should arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure of your domestic flight. For international flights, arrive three hours before departure.
