Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is Optional, except CDW is Mandatory to renters and drivers under 25 year of age
Depending on car group rented, customer is liable for an amount ranging between 18,000.00 EUR and 102,000.00 EUR if Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not taken. Purchase of CDW reduces liability to an amount between 850.00 EUR and 1050.00 EUR depending on car group rented in the event of an accident or parking damage to the Avis vehicle.
Theft Protection (TP) is included in the CDW
Depending on car group rented, customer is liable for an amount ranging between 18,000.00 EUR and 102,000.00 EUR if Theft Protection (TP) is not taken. Purchase of TP reduces liability to an amount between 850.00 EUR and 1050.00 EUR depending on car group rented for theft of parts or all of the Avis vehicle.
Note: Unauthorized travel into restricted countries as per rental agreement will void CDW & TP. Failure to summon police in an accident will void CDW & TP. Avis recommends purchase of CDW & TP if traveling into France or Italy.
If you require additional insurance coverage you may purchase locally to reduce/remove the insurance excess. Just ask at the Avis rental desk when you collect your car.

At this location the minimum age is 21 for all car groups, except for the following: minimum age is 18 for car group A (Economy) and minimum age is 25 for car group J (Luxury). A Young Driver fee will apply to drivers between the ages of 18 and 24. The Young Driver fee of 11.90 EUR per day per driver, with a maximum 10 day fee of 119.00 EUR per rental per driver.
Credit Card Policies
Avis Germany accepts Avis Charge Cards, Air Travel, American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard / Eurocard, Trusthouse Forte, Visa. Car Group J requires that the customer must present two major credit cards from different companies at the time of rental. One must be a gold or platinum.
Debit Card Policies
Debit cards are not accepted.
Driver's License Requirements
International Driving Permit is required unless driver has a license issued within the European Union.
US, Canadian, Australian & New Zealand licenses are accepted (International driving permit not required for renters with a US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand license).
Applicable to all drivers, a valid driver's license must have been held for a minimum of one year.
In addition to a valid drivers license, renter and additional drivers must also present their valid ID or Passport.Exception: A driver's license from Greece is acceptable.
An International Driving Permit (IDP) serves only as a translation of a driver's existing license, and by itself is not acceptable for vehicle rental.
Due to winter conditions between November 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012 the entire Avis fleet in Germany is equipped with winter tires. The fee for winter tires is included in the total price.
Travel Into Other Countries

EXCEPTIONS TO DRIVING INTO EASTERN EUROPE
Vehicles owned by and rented from Germany may travel into the following countries Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Ukraineunder the following conditions:
Valid for Opel, Mercedes A-Class, Volvo and Renault type vehicles.

The customer must advise counter to receive the necessary documentation.
An additional fee of 8.00 EUR per day will apply.
United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland
Cars are permitted to travel into the U.K. or the Republic of Ireland as long as they are returned to the mainland. Note: Driving on the opposite side of the road with a car from Germany is difficult to get used to.
Travel into Switzerland
All vehicles driving on Swiss highways must purchase a special tax sticker (Swiss Hwy. Sticker). Cost is 40.00 SFR and is available for purchase at the border crossings. Customer is subject to a fine of 100.00 SFR if caught without the sticker.
Travel into Austria
All vehicles driving in Austria must have a Toll Sticker that can be purchased at the border. The Toll Sticker is available for specified length of use, with a minimum one day purchase.
Fines for neglecting to purchase the Toll sticker start at: 200 EUR
It is recommended that customers purchase the optional CDW and TP if traveling into France or Italy.
Porsche cars may only be driven in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Mercedes C, E and S-Class cars are NOT allowed into Italy.
