Additional Liability Insurance (ALI)


Optional Coverages

Acceptance of the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) reduces the renters and authorized additional drivers financial responsibility to between 250.00 CAD and 2500.00 CAD depending on car group confirmed, if the car is damaged or stolen while under rental contract. Using the vehicle in violation of any of the use restrictions listed on the rental agreement could void LDW and leave the renter fully responsible for any damage to the vehicle.

Partial Loss Damage Waiver (PDW) is available at certain rental locations to relieve the renter of the first $1,000 CAD of the loss of, or damage to, the Avis car.

All inquiries regarding PDW availability and cost should be referred to the rental location.

All Avis cars are not to be driven on unpaved roads (like gravel, dirt, etc.).

If LDW is not accepted, the customer is financially responsible for the full value of the car if:

  • Accident damage
  • Glass damage
  • Vandalism
  • Theft of the car
  • Stolen items such as radio, battery, etc.

Global insurance coverages are always subject to change. Please verify at time of rental.


Credit Card Policies

Avis accepts most major credit cards as credit identification at the time of rental.

Accepted credit card list: Avis Charge Card, American Express, AT&T Capital, Diner's Club, Diner's Club Int'l, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, and Visa.

Some locations may not accept each of the referenced cards.

At the time of rental, a hold of $500.00 CAD or estimated rental charges plus 20%, whichever is greater, is placed on the credit card.


Debit Card Policies

Debit cards are not accepted at time of rental at this location.  A debit card can be used to pay for the rental at the time of car return.


Drivers License

At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid drivers license in the drivers name.  All customers must also present a second form of ID. Please refer to the Additional Information topic for details.
Canada licenses required by issuing province to rent a vehicle are:  Manitoba requires Class 5 Full (F), New Brunswick requires Class 7 (level 2 only) and Class 5, Ontario requires Class G & G2 and all other provinces require Class 5.

Customers presenting a drivers license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to their valid drivers license.


Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)


Public Liability and Property Damage

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.


Delivery and Collection

Can I have a vehicle delivered to me?

Some of our rental locations offer a Delivery Service where we drop the vehicle - and any optional extras you pre-booked - off at a time and place you request. For further information please contact the rental station or Reservations Team.
The vehicle delivery fee depends on where you're renting and where the vehicle is being delivered to - but you can expect it to be between EUR 20.00 and EUR 100.00. The price will be shown to you during the booking process or disclosed before completing your booking. You may also call us to ask about the price.
Where a Delivery Service is available please give us 24 hours' notice that you would like us to deliver the vehicle to you. We may be able to deliver it at shorter notice, but you'll need to check with the rental station or Reservations team.

Can the vehicle be collected?

Some of our rental locations offer a Collection Service where we collect the vehicle - and any optional extras you rented - at a time and place you request. For further information please contact the rental station or Reservations Team. If you want to have the vehicle collected, you or your authorised agent must be available to hand the vehicle over.
You will be responsible for the fuel used - at the Pay on Return rates - to return the vehicle to our nearest rental location unless you buy Fuel up Front. Further information: See the "Fuel Charges" section in this document and Section 15) of the General Conditions of Rental.
We charge an additional fee for collecting the vehicle. The fee for this depends on where you're renting and where the vehicle is being collected from - but you can expect it to be between EUR 20.00 and EUR 100.00. The price will be shown to you during the booking process or disclosed before completing your booking. You may also call us to ask about the price.
Where a Collection Service is available please give us 24 hours' notice when you want the vehicle collected. We may be able to collect the vehicle at shorter notice, but you will need to check with the Reservations team.


Estimated Totals

Approximate total includes base rate, taxes, and surcharges. Items such as coupon discounts, child safety seats, winterization fee from 01Nov - 31Mar and gas are NOT included in the estimated total. Optional coverages and one-way fees are subject to tax in certain locations. This tax is not reflected in the Estimated Total.

Estimated total is subject to change based upon exchange rates at the time of rental.


Age Requirements

Rather than requiring customers to be 25 to rent, Avis at this location now rents to customers between the ages of 21-24.  An underage surcharge may apply and will automatically be applied to the reservation.

Additionally, the following restrictions also will apply for renters between the ages of 21-24: Rentals of luxury cars, mini-vans, 12-passenger vans, specialty cars, and SUVs will not be permitted.

 

Government Minimum Age Policy

  • Minimum age 21 (no underage fee applies). 

ID Requirements

The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of gas or there will be a charge for refueling.

Most locations offer a prepaid gas option which you can accept at the rental location.

If the vehicle is driven less than 125 kilometers there may be an additional refueling fee, unless a gas receipt is presented at time of return. The customer can check at the time of rental for complete details.


Miscellaneous Information

Can I let anyone else drive?

Yes, but only if we have approved them. You may not let anyone drive the vehicle who hasn't been approved by us.
This shall not apply if, through no fault of your own, you are unable to drive the vehicle and the vehicle must be driven to prevent an imminent danger (e.g., if you’re in a medical emergency and you need to be taken to the hospital).
We charge a fee for every Additional Driver we allow to drive the vehicle. The price depends on the location you’re renting from, but you can expect it to be between EUR 7.00 and EUR 8.19 per day, per additional driver. The exact price will be shown during the booking process or disclosed to you before completing your booking. You may also call us to ask about the price.
If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you'll only be charged this additional fee for a maximum of 10 days and this will cover the entire duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
All additional drivers must meet our age, driving licence and ID requirements. Find out more: Please refer to sections "Age Information" and "Driving license and ID requirements" on this document.
If any additional driver is outside of our age restrictions, we will also charge a driver surcharge 

Do you offer a 'meet and greet' service?

No, unfortunately we are unable to offer a 'meet and greet' service in Austria.

Can I pick up the vehicle outside your normal opening hours?
Yes, some rental locations offer an out of hour's pick-up service where you can collect the vehicle and any optional extras outside the rental location's normal opening hours.
The out of hour's pick up fee is 35.00 Euro.
You must give us at least 24 hours notice to organize out of hour's pick-up. We may be able to provide the service at shorter notice, but you will need to check with the Reservations team.

My rental has a mileage allowance (mileage flat rate). I have driven more kilometres than stated, how much will I pay for excess mileage? Many of our vehicles are provided with unlimited mileage. If a mileage allowance is included, this will be shown or disclosed to you before completing your booking and stated on your rental agreement, as well as in your booking confirmation email. If you go over the mileage allowance, the price depends on the vehicle and location - but you can expect it to cost between EUR 0,50 and EUR 2,00 for every kilometre you've driven over the allowance. The exact price for the additional mileage will either be shown or disclosed to you before your booking is completed and stated on your rental agreement. You may also call us to ask about the price.

Roadside Assistance
How much does Roadside Assistance Plus cost?
The price will depend on where you're renting - but you can expect it to be between EUR 6,00 and EUR 7,02 a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you'll only be charged this additional fee for a maximum of 10 days, but this will cover the entire duration of your rental, up to 28 days. The exact price for this will be either shown or disclosed to you before completing your booking and stated on your rental agreement. You may also call us to ask about the price.

Can I smoke in the vehicle?
No, you are not allowed to smoke in it. If we believe anyone has smoked in the vehicle during the rental period, a specialist cleaning charge will apply.

Are there any roads or zones where I need to pay a fee before I can enter?
Yes, certain areas, such as highways have congestion charging zones meaning you need to pay a fee if you wish to drive in certain areas, on certain days and during certain times. In addition, there are toll roads and toll bridges which require you to pay a fee if you wish to use them. If you do not pay these charges before you enter such areas or use such roads or bridges, you will incur a fine. 

We recommend you check the internet to find out about any restricted areas before you travel. Websites such as www.urbanaccessregulations.eu provide useful information.  If the rental location is in or near a restricted area, we will tell you about it when you pick up the vehicle.  We are unable to tell you about any other restricted areas.

I have been caught speeding, or I didn't pay a parking charge; what will I have to pay?
You are responsible for all fines and charges issued as a result of you or your additional drivers using the vehicle. You will find further information on this in the General Conditions of Rental.
If a fine or charge is sent to us because you haven't paid a charge or complied with the law, we will take payment for:

  • Our processing fee of EUR 30.00 for every fine or fee that has been issued, and
  • The fine or charge itself - if we have to pay it

I parked the vehicle at the entrance to a property or in a private parking space without authorisation. Will I be charged for the costs that ensue?
Yes, if you parked the vehicle at the entrance to a property or in a private parking space without authorisation and you are charged with trespass by the person affected, you must compensate us the ensuing reasonable costs of proceeding, in addition to a processing fee of EUR 30.00. We do not charge the processing fee if you or your passengers/additional drivers are not at fault with regard to the trespass.
I've left the interior of the vehicle very dirty and made it smell. Will I be charged to clean it?
Yes, if the interior of the vehicle is especially muddy, dirty, stained or has an unpleasant odour, and our standard cleaning procedure cannot deal with this, you will be charged a Specialist Cleaning Charge of EUR150.00. This does not apply if you and your co-driver/additional driver are not at fault (e.g., soiling due to an accident caused by a third party).
What happens if I don't return the incident report form or European accident form?
If you are involved in an accident, or the vehicle, key, accessory, a vehicle document or an extra is damaged, lost or stolen, you must complete a damage report form and in the case of an accident also the European Accident Statement report form correctly and in full and send it to us as soon as possible, but at the latest within seven days.
If you do not send us the damage report form or the European Accident Statement report form within seven days following the accident, loss or theft, a processing fee for our additional work amounting to EUR 30.00 will be levied, insofar as you are culpably responsible for the fact that we have not received a properly completed damage/accident report form within seven days. The payment of this processing fee does not, however, indemnify you from the obligation to submit to us the properly completed damage report form or the European Accident Statement report form. 


One Way Rentals

Can I pick up the vehicle from one rental location and return it to another?
Yes, some rental locations let you collect the vehicle and any optional extras from one rental location and return them to another.

How much is the One Way fee?
The price depends on the rental location. If you want to pick up the vehicle and return it to a different location in the same country, you can expect it to be between 15.00 Euro and 34.00 Euro. If you want to pick up the vehicle in one country and drop it off in another country, you can expect it to be between 100.00 Euro and 2500.00 Euro. The exact price for this will be either shown or disclosed to you before completing your booking and stated on your rental agreement. You may also call us to ask about the price.

How do I get a One Way rental?
You can request a one-way rental when you book, or you can ask for it when you get to the rental location.
If you asked for a one-way rental when you booked, the fee will be included in your rental price.

How much will it cost if I did not request a One Way rental but return the vehicle to a different location?
You will be charged a one-way fee at the pay at location tariff valid on the day you return the vehicle. You may also call us to ask about the price.


Pre-Authorisation

How much is the pre-authorisation?

  • Equivalent to $110 in Euro dependant on the exchange rate at the time
  • the vehicle rental price (including all optional extras you've requested), calculated at the start of the rental based on the intended length of the rental.

If you have selected our Pay Now option, when booking, the sum you have paid will be deducted from the value pre-authorised.

Rental Options


I'm not familiar with the area; can I rent a GPS (satellite navigation system)?
Yes, the fee for renting a GPS will depend on where you're renting - but you can expect it to cost between 14.50 Euro and 17.00 Euro a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the GPS for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If the GPS is damaged, lost or stolen, you'll have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost between 100.00 Euro and 150.00 Euro plus the rental costs. If you have agreed a liability limit (damage waiver) and this is applicable, your liability will be restricted to the excess agreed.
Please note: In some countries, it is against the law to use a GPS that tells you where speed cameras are. This is also illegal in Austria. If you rent a GPS from us, it won't give you such speed camera information.

Do you offer an audio tour guide service on your GPS?
No, unfortunately we do not offer an audio tour guide service at this time.

I want to be able to access the internet anywhere I go, do you offer a solution?
Yes, we offer Mobile Wi-Fi devices. To use this service you will need to read and agree to separate terms and conditions. We'll give you these terms and conditions at the rental location.
Please note: In many countries, including Austria, it is illegal to drive while using a handheld mobile phone (without a hands-free car kit), tablet or other communications device. It is your responsibility to drive safely and according to the laws of the country you¿re driving in.

How much does Mobile Wi-Fi cost?

The fee for hiring mobile Wi-Fi will depend on where you're renting - but you can expect it to be between EUR 10,50 and EUR 12,50 a day. The exact price for this will be either shown or disclosed to you before completing your booking and stated on your rental agreement. You may also call us to ask about the price.
If the mobile Wi-Fi device is damaged, lost or stolen, you are responsible for the cost of the replacement, unless you were not culpable for the damage, loss or theft and/or it was not due to your fault or to that of your passengers or additional drivers. This is likely to cost EUR 150,00 on top of the hire fee. If you have agreed a liability limit (damage waiver) and this is applicable, your liability will be restricted to the excess agreed.

If the SIM card or an accessory part of the mobile Wi-Fi device is damaged, lost or stolen, you are responsible for the cost of the replacement, unless you were not culpable for the damage, loss or theft and/or it was not due to your fault or to that of your passengers or additional drivers. This is likely to cost from EUR 3.00 to EUR 150,00 on top of the hire fee. If you have agreed a liability limit (damage waiver) and this is applicable, your liability will be restricted to the limit agreed. 

I'm intending to drive along toll roads; do you offer a device to make this quicker and easier for me?
No, unfortunately we do not offer any electronic toll charging devices at this time.

Winter equipment to rent

I'm concerned about the road conditions, do you offer all-weather tyres?
Yes, if the rental location you're hiring from is in an area where it's illegal to drive without all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with them and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.
We can also supply all-weather tyres for a fee. This will depend on where you're renting but you can expect it to be between 5.00 Euro and 5.85 Euro a day.
If any all-weather tyre is damaged, lost or stolen, you'll have to pay for a replacement pair. You can expect this to range from around 100.00 Euro to 200.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.

Please give us at least 24 hours notice if your rental does not automatically include all-weather tyres and you want to hire them. If you need them at shorter notice, please call the Reservations team.

I'm going skiing, do you offer snow chains?
Yes, if the rental location you're hiring from is in an area where it's illegal to drive without Snow Chains or all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with snow chains and the fee will be included in your rental fee. You can ask not to have these but we recommend that you take either snow chains or all-weather tyres at these locations.
Snow chains are also available in some other rental locations. The fee for snow chains depends on where you're renting but you can expect it to be between 32.00 Euro and 37.50 Euro per rental.
If any snow chain is damaged, lost or stolen, you'll have to pay for a replacement pair. This is likely to cost between 50.00 Euro and 60.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.

We can't fit snow chains for you, and we can't arrange for them to be fitted.

I'm have brought my own skis with me, do you rent ski racks?
Yes, some rental locations offer ski racks. You can expect to pay between 32.00 Euro and 37.50 Euro per rental to rent a Ski Rack from us.
Ski racks can't be fitted to all our vehicles, so you may need to upgrade if you need one. This may increase the price of the vehicle and any excess you have to pay.

If the ski rack is damaged, lost or stolen, you¿ll have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost between 250.00 Euro and 500.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.

Please give us at least 24 hours notice if you want to hire a ski rack. If you need it at shorter notice, please call the Reservations team.

I've left my hands-free kit behind, do you rent them?
No, unfortunately we do not offer hands-free kits at this time.

I'm moving items, do you rent blankets?
No, unfortunately we do not offer blankets at this time.

I'm moving items, do you rent trolleys?
No, unfortunately we do not offer trolleys at this time.

Optional extras available to buy

I've left my USB charger behind, do you sell them?
Yes, you can buy a USB Charger for 9.00 Euro to 10.60 Euro, but they're only available from selected rental locations .

I've left my mobile charger behind, do you sell them?
Yes, you can buy a Mobile Charger for 9.00 Euro to 10.60 Euro with universal wall plug dual USB port and retractable iPhone 4 adaptor, but they're only available from selected rental locations.

I want to charge my device in the car, do you sell car chargers?
Yes, you can buy a Universal Car Charger for 9.00 Euro to 10.60 Euro  but they're only available from selected rental locations.

I've left my iPhone cable behind, do you sell them?
Yes, you can buy an iPhone 5 cable for 17.00 Euro to 20.00 Euro, but they're only available from selected rental locations.

 

The prices we give you for optional extras when you book will generally be the price you will pay. Exchange rates or other reasons beyond our control may alter prices.

Customers with disabilities

I have a disability, do you offer adapted vehicles?
Yes, specially adapted vehicles are available at some of our rental locations. 

I have a disability, do you offer hand controls?

No, regrettably, we do not currently offer hand controls or panoramic mirrors at this time.

Popular optional extras to rent

I have small children, do you offer child seats?
Yes, we offer baby, child and booster seats.  A baby seat is typically suitable for a child from birth to 12 months old and weighing no more than 13 kilos.  An infant seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 4 years old and weighing between 9 and 18 kilos.  A child seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 12 years old and weighing between 9 and 36 kilos.  A booster seat is typically suitable for a child aged 4 to 12 years old and weighing between 20 and 45 kilos.

In some rental locations, we may arrange for a third party to fit the seat for you. But remember, it is always your responsibility to check the seat is fitted correctly before you drive away.

Please note: In Austria all children must normally use a child car seat until they're 14 years old or 150 cm tall. 

How much are your child seats?
The fee for renting a seat will depend on where you're renting but you can expect it to cost between 12.00 Euro and 14.04 Euro a day. The exact price for this will be either shown or disclosed to you before completing your booking and stated on your rental agreement. You may also call us to ask about the price. If you rent the vehicle for more than 5 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 5 days and get to use the seat for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.

If the seat is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement, unless you were not culpable for the damage, loss or theft and/or it was not due to your fault or to that of your passengers or additional drivers. This is likely to cost between 20.00 Euro and 250.00 Euro plus the rental costs. You can enquire about the exact cost by phone or at the rental location. If you have agreed a liability limit (damage waiver)) and this is applicable, your liability will be restricted to the excess agreed.

 


Travel Into Other Countries

Vehicles at this location can be driven throughout the Canadian Provinces with no restrictions. Based on availability; One-way rentals may be allowed to some Canadian cities. Vehicles at this location can be driven throughout the continental US with no restrictions. Based on availability; One-way rentals may be allowed to some US cities.

Vehicles at this location are not allowed to travel into Alaska. One-way rentals are also not permitted.

Vehicles at this location are not allowed to travel into Mexico. One-way rentals are also not permitted.

What countries am I allowed to take the vehicle to?

You are only allowed to use the vehicle in the following countries:

Porsche vehicles may only be driven in Austria (A), Germany (D) and Switzerland (CH).
You are not allowed to use the vehicle in the Albania (AL), Armenia (AM), Azerbaijan (AZ), Belarus (BY), Bulgaria (BG), Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), Belarus (BY), Cyprus (CY), Estonia (EST), Georgia (GE), Greece (GR), Iceland (IS), Kazakhstan (KZ), Kosovo (RKS), Latvia (LV), Lithuania (LT), Malta (M), Macedonia (MK), Moldavia (MD), Montenegro (MNE), Romania (RO), Russia (RUS), Serbia (SRB), Turkey (TR), Ukraine (UA) and any country outside continental Europe.
Not allowed are also: Balearic Islands, Canaries, Corsica, Crete, Sardinia 

Can I buy a product to allow me to drive in other countries?

Yes, if you buy Travel East cover, you may also take our vehicle to:

  Czech Republic (CZ), Hungary (H), Croatia (HR), Poland (PL), Slovakia (SK), Slovenia (SLO).

How do I buy Travel East cover?

Travel East is only available at selected rental locations and on selected vehicles. To find out where you can buy it, learn about any restrictions that apply and to get a quote, please call the Reservations Team.
If you buy Travel East, and drive in any of the additionally permitted countries, you may only park the vehicle in supervised car parks or supervised parking areas, and you may not provide the keys to any third parties under any circumstances (for example, to use a valet parking service).

How much does it cost?
