Avis proudly has initiated greener business practices as well as innovative company initiatives that make it easy for all of us to do our part - plus you'll save on fuel costs while you help keep the planet clean!
Avis Fuel-Efficient Green Fleet
Rent Smarter. Save money by filling up less often! About half the vehicles in the Avis fleet have a fuel efficiency rating of 28 miles per gallon or better (highway). One-fourth of our fleet (approximately 100,000 vehicles) is rated at 30 miles per gallon (highway) or better. A full 100 percent of Avis' economy, compact, intermediate and standard car classes and 85 percent of full-size cars have met stringent U.S. EPA guidelines and are U.S. EPA SmartWay Certified.
Avis Eco-Rides. Our Cool Cars Eco-Rides fleet is especially earth-friendly because it's exclusively comprised of hybrids or SmartWay Elite certified vehicle - proven to be the best environmental performers. Avis now has over 2,000 gas/electric hybrid vehicles in our Eco-Rides fleet - and we'll continue to add more as manufacturers make them available to us.
Newer, Well-Maintained Fleet. Avis vehicles are more energy efficient than older or poorly-maintained vehicles, and that keeps fuel costs low! Our car fleet averages less than six months on the road and our vehicles undergo regular preventive maintenance and emission inspections.
Flex Fuel Cars. Avis "flex fuel" cars help minimize environmental impact because they can operate using E-85 ethanol fuel, available at gas stations primarily in the Midwestern U.S. Our fleet includes the Chevy Suburban, Chevy Impala, and Chevy Monte Carlo, all designed to run on E-85 as well as regular unleaded gasoline.
Smart Car Washes. All new Avis car wash systems recycle and reuse at least 80% of wastewater. In addition, Avis recycles used motor oil, oil filters, parts and brake cleaner fluids at our corporate maintenance facilities.
Clean Diesel. All diesel engine shuttle buses operating at Avis airport locations use clean diesel technology. All Avis shuttles in Los Angeles and San Francisco are ultra-clean diesel, and they use a new fuel with more than 95-percent sulfur reduction.

Avis eToll: Avis offers electronic toll collection services in more cars and more cities than any other company, so you can skip cash payment lines and use automated toll collection lanes. Published studies have shown that electronic toll collection reduces hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide emissions by

Avis where2® GPS Navigation: Use less fuel and produce fewer emissions by using convenient GPS navigation. When you follow step-by-step GPS directions, you're less likely to get lost - and real-time traffic alerts help you avoid roadway bottlenecks - allowing drivers to use the most direct and efficient route to your final destination.
